A bit of Hope

I still have had no luck with finding India.  I had a call about a possible India sighting, but in retrospect the person who though she saw India now thinks it might have been another black cat.  She said she would prefer not to have the trap on her property until she has another sighting.  I have not had any additional information from the person who said she saw a black cat in the 1500 block of 36th Street, either.

But someone has recently seen black cat, and has offered to try to capture it when they see it next.  The location seems a little far away to be India, but it could be her and I certainly appreciate any effort to bring her home.

Also, when I was at the Humane Society (for the zillionth time, it feels like) they said the average search lasts 4 months.  They said that people will see a pet looking ragged and take it in, and then after a few months will bring it to the shelter.   Tomorrow will be two months, so I'm only half way there.

Some people see a stray pet looking pretty rough and feel resentment toward the owner for not taking care of it.  I know there are plenty of people who do neglect or abandon animals (and should be ashamed of themselves), but a cat (or dog) can look absolutely terrible after a short while of rough living, even if it came from a very caring home.  It's not that we neglected the animal, it's just that no one looks great after living on the streets, even for a short time.  I hope that anyone who sees India will just feel compassion for her and reserve judgement of me until they've met me.  I certainly could have done without this little adventure.  I didn't want her to go out that night, and we tried to get her back and even had a hand on her but she slipped through our fingers.

With it being as cold as it has been, I'd be very grateful if someone had been keeping India safe and warm and fed.  I hate to think of her out in the freezing weather, though I know she is clever and can find places to shelter.  She can also hunt, and there are plenty of streams around here, but I still don't like it.
