An Adventure

Last night I received a call from someone saying he had a black cat in his apartment and he thought it might be India. He said it had green eyes and looked just like the picture in the Craigslist ad. I asked about the kink in her tail, and he said he was not really comfortable around cats and didn’t want to handle it. We were just finishing dinner so I said I would come over and see if it was India. I didn’t think it was wise to go to a strange apartment all alone, so I called Holly and asked if she would go with me. The kids stayed home with Geoffrey. We got to the apartment and the guys who lived there were very nice and showed us the room where the cat was hiding. She had wedged herself between the hamper and the wall. She seemed too small to be India, though after two months she could have lost weight. But I felt her tail and it was straight and true. It wasn’t India. Nevertheless, we couldn’t just leave her here. She was a very sweet and well socialized kitty, but she was conf

A bit of Hope

I still have had no luck with finding India.  I had a call about a possible India sighting, but in retrospect the person who though she saw India now thinks it might have been another black cat.  She said she would prefer not to have the trap on her property until she has another sighting.  I have not had any additional information from the person who said she saw a black cat in the 1500 block of 36th Street, either. But someone has recently seen black cat, and has offered to try to capture it when they see it next.  The location seems a little far away to be India, but it could be her and I certainly appreciate any effort to bring her home. Also, when I was at the Humane Society (for the zillionth time, it feels like) they said the average search lasts 4 months.  They said that people will see a pet looking ragged and take it in, and then after a few months will bring it to the shelter.   Tomorrow will be two months, so I'm only half way there. Some people see a stray pet lo

Helpful Information

I did manage to trap a cat, but unfortunately it wasn’t India. It was my aunt’s cat, who is one of India’s sisters. I had been worried that India might be too big for the trap, so knowing that her slightly bigger sister can get into the trap is good to know. I also received a tip that a black cat had been sighted in the 1500 block of 36th Street, which is not far from us. I have moved the trap up there and will be checking it regularly. I hope the black cat is India and that we catch her soon.

Gratitude

It has been a very trying month without India. We miss her terribly. But this post isn’t about her. It’s about you. The community has been incredibly supportive during this difficult time. People have been very kind to us, and have sent messages of encouragement. I have had a couple of calls about cats who have not been India, but I’m still glad to receive those calls. They mean that someone has heard of her and knows she is missing. It means that someone cares about us and wants to bring her home. And that is a very great gift. Thank you so much for your kindness and continued watchfulness. Please keep us in your thoughts and keep looking. I know it’s entirely possible that she was killed by a coyote or some other predator. But I’m not ready to give up yet. Thank you for continuing to encourage us.

Still no Luck

It's been a little more than a week since the last post.  I am moving the trap to a different location, as I had no luck in the alley.  I've also been checking the Humane Society every couple of days, but no India.  I really wish I had had her microchipped.  I had been under the impression that microchipping was very, very expensive, but as it turns out I could have had it done at the Humane Society for $20.  If only I had known (Henna is now microchipped). My posters blew down in the wind.  I will put them back up; and refresh my postings on Craigslist, Nextdoor, and Lost Pets of Whatcom County's Facebook Page.  I'm really hoping a neighbor found her and is keeping her safe, and then she might eventually get outside again and come home. Yesterday was 4 weeks.  Tomorrow will be one month.  I have heard stories of cats randomly coming back after as many as three months, and someone at the shelter said a cat once turned up at the shelter after a year and the kitty and

Nothing Yet

It’s been several days and I have not caught anything in the trap, not even a rodent. So I’m going to freshen the food and move it to a different spot. Hopefully I will have better luck.

It’s a Trap!

I’ve been wanting to set a humane trap in an attempt to capture India. I haven’t seen any signs that she’s nearby, but I’m going to try it anyway. Yesterday I borrowed one from Bel-West Cat Rescue. Today I baited it with a bit of cat food and tuna fish. I put in one of my old garments so it would also have a comforting smell. Now we wait.
